WILL ZARDARI KEEP HIS PROMISE ?

The meeting between Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime minister Manmohan Singh left everybody speculating . It was a short affair and both sides had less hopes pinned to this meet, but it can be said as the ice breaker as the Indo –Pak talks were comatose since 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. But it is yet to be seen that whether anything beyond the handshakes and the smiles has been achieved or not. The meeting between the two leaders had myriad topics in its agenda ranging from terrorism to cricket but the concrete outcome is awaited. However, Delhi and Islamabad clarified it as the meet to identify their areas of problems and their solution and to set a date for PM Singh’s visit to Pakistan.

The results of the meet are dubious as India is primarily interested in bringing the plotters of the Mumbai attack to books and President Zardari has promised to do so but he has less to manoeuvre . He is still a weak President grappling with countless political opponents, trying to make his grip stronger over Pakistan’s political scenario. It is an open secret that general Kiyani and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani are the key players in Pakistan’s political field . It must be known that Gilani has already said in Parliament that the case of Hafiz Saeed is Pakistan’s "internal issue" and any evidence against Saeed should be provided to Pakistan so that it can be examined by the country's independent judiciary. Zardari has well supported the same by giving his statement that his stance on Hafiz Saeed is not different from his government.
However , not to be forgotten , the cynosure of all eyes ,PPP chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. President Zardari’s son Bilawal (23), who was on his maiden visit to India was reportedly seated next to AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi during the lunch and the two leaders had lot of parallel discussion. Bilawal has also extended an invitation to Rahul Gandhi to visit Pakistan. It can be seen that after returning to Pakistan Bilawal tweeted in favour of better Indo –Pak relations.

The two leaders Bilawal and Rahul , are heir to the political legacy in their respective countries , their initiation into politics has also been tragic – this can be linked that they would both bring in young blood and together work for making peace between the two countries.
