Ishrat Jahan , a name that has been in the media for quite sometime now.A young college girl from Mumbai, Ishrat, was killed in an encounter in Gujarat , along with her three friends in 2004.According to police all four were a part of Laskar-e Taiba module, who were in the sate to kill C.M. Narendra Modi. The encounter is now reported to be fake.Shamefully enough this is not the only case, numerous people have been killed in such fake encounters under the umbrella of terrorism.Ranvir Singh Tewatia was killed in an alledged fake encounter in Dalanwala area in Dehradun on july 3 , 2009 and Sohrabuddin and his wife Kausar Bi on 26,November 2005 near Ahmedabad. These are just some glaring additions to the list(which thankfully, are on the tracks of investigation and have been well taken up by the media).Numerous go unreported, unknown.Let me bring to the knowledge of all that there have ben 21 controversial encounters in Gujarat alone between 2003 and 2005 , most of these credited to D.I.G. -D.G.Vanzara.
Nothing is as henious as an official crime. In a country where we say very unmindfully "secular and democratic"these encounters are egregious. What makes men in uniform inhuman to such an extent? The mounting pressure from govt., high public expectations and pressure or the greed for rewards and recognitions? When the denizens of an independent , social, secular and democratic country are being killed in cold blood, the future of such a country is foggy.
The need of the hour is to punish the guilty as soon as possible and restore people's faith in judiciary.Pent up anger, distrust and dislike towards administration may anyitme take a form of rebellion. A country, which is already struggling with insurgency, terrorism and underworld activities, handling a revolt from its own people within its premises will be tough and ruining.

I think you very well bring forward a bitter reality. Our country is geographically very large and has equally miserable Leadership. Therefore chaos and atrocities are natural to occur.
ReplyDeleteHard to accept, cultural diversity of its citizens makes it even worse.
Lack of accountability in government bodies, moral education and large scale efforts towards social reforms are cause behind such horrendous crimes.
Change of leadership model is a solution perhaps - its time to move away from current to intellect driven leadership model.
Of course change in mindset need to be mandated right from the grassroots i.e primary school level, and it will take at least 4 generations to be visiblly impactful - by that time all those corrupt are hopefully dead naturally or otherwise :-)
